We have been manufacturing for
50 years now but few people who thumb through our catalogue,
realise the number of processes necessary in the making
of any of our products.
It will also amaze many people how even with modern
technology, parts of the process have changed little
in a thousand years!
The production of our range of products with a crest
or special logo stamped or embossed presents few problems
but it is those items that incorporate colour that require
a high degree of expertise.
The manufacture starts by placing a piece of metal on
a steel die which has the logo engraved on it in reverse;
the metal is then squeezed between the die on which
it sits and another plain die.
In the old days the plain die would be attached to a
rope and by a pulley system the operator would pull
this up 8 feet or more and then let the rope go so that
that plain die came down hit the metal. The heavier
the plain die and the higher it was raised the greater
the impact. There were no guards so accidents did happen.
These operators were like tennis players as the muscles
on one arm became highly developed!
The same principal applies in the modern presses shown
here except that air is used to drive them but the metal
piece is still squeezed between two pieces of steel.
The presses are rated according to the pressure they
can generate. The larger the item being produced the
greater the pressure needed and the bigger the press
used. |
