Collectables A collectable is something which
is no longer made and in short supply and to some
this will mean it has an enhanced value while to
others its cost is not important as it serves to
bring back memories of a time gone by.
It is often said there is nothing new in the world
and old items are often reproduced at a much later
date but it is the original which has the value.
Of course, not every item in short supply is a collectable;
it must be recognisable by many, be well made or
represent a by-gone era.
In Manhattan’s case, many items that have
become collectables were made for companies that
no longer exist. British Leyland who were manufacturing
during the golden years of the British car industry
and epitomised the 60’s and 70’s. Airlines
that went bankrupt or merged such as British Caledonian,
Debonair and Air Europe or changed their logo such
as British Airways and Britannia Airways; there
will always be plane spotters who are interested
in these items.
Breweries that had pubs and branded the beer pump
handles until cost considerations led them to use
much cheaper identification marks.
Special one-off events, when Manhattan was commissioned
to produce a commerative product.
All
these have become collectables and can often be
seen on e-bay or in antique sale-rooms.
